Help Needed
The North Kent Bikeathon is on July 1st. Bigfoot CC supported this charity ride last year by running two feed stations (Ide Hill and Chiddingstone) and marshaling two corners. The event starts at Norman Park and offers 15,30 and 50 mile routes. It's organised by Catford Rotary and Chislehurst Rotary. If you can spare a few hours on July 1st to feed and water participants on the long route, please contact Ian Ward ward.ian@virginmedia.com

It's at 7.30pm on May 28th at Blackheath & Bromley Harriers AC, The Sydney Wooderson Centre, 56 Bourne Way, Hayes, Bromley, Kent, BR2 7EY. Read more...

Adam's organised a ride on the disused railway line from Heathfield to Eastbourne, including riding though a tunnel. There are some sections of quiet roads, suited to all types of bikes. A one way journey is 16 miles, however shorter options can be done. The meeting point is in Heathfield at 10.45. Read more...

Ride Etiquette -Single or Double?
This Saturday's focus on the road rides is when to ride side by side or in single file. It's NEVER three abreast. The Highway Code specifically allows cyclists to ride two abreast. It is usually the leader’s decision when to move to single file because of traffic or when passing walkers or horses. Be aware of traffic behind and coming in the opposite direction and allow it to pass safely. The group should move smoothly between single and double, avoiding sharp braking. Watch this for more tips and nice scenery.

The Group Ride
"The group settles into formation metres after leaving the café. Like the table manners learned as children the formation is innate to us. Two abreast, tight against the curb we form two lines." Michael Barry of Team Sky has written a wonderful article on group riding. Read more...

Saturday parking
If you are coming by car to the Saturday morning road rides please avoid parking outside or opposite the shops in Hayes Street. This not only leaves spaces free for customers of all the shops on the row but could prevent damage to your car by large vehicles trying to squeeze through later in the morning. There's space in nearby side streets. Thanks for your cooperation.

At Bigfoot Cycle Club (formerly Bigfoot Bike Club!) we like to ride for fun and fitness. We aim to appeal to leisure cyclists right up to semi-serious riders who enjoy taking part in sportives, races and time trials. The club is affiliated to the Cyclists Touring Club (CTC), the Road Time Trials Council (RTTC) and British Cycling (BC).
We are based in Hayes near Bromley, Kent and organise regular road rides for different levels. There is a lively off-road section with night rides every week. We also run off road rides in a safe environment for kids and family. In addition to regular rides in the local area the club also arranges trips away, from mountain biking in the Lake District to a week in Italy.
Regular Rides
ROAD: We have 3-4 hour road rides every Saturday morning going around the lanes of Kent and Surrey, taking in some hills. Meet 8.15am outside Hayes Village Hall, opposite Bigfoot Bikes.
MTB: There's a lively off-road section with nightrides every Thursday at 8pm. There's usually a Sunday ride as well.
Each ride has an experienced leader. Check Next Rides and the Forums to find out more.
Ride Leader Rotas
An updated Ride Leader Rota is now available.
If you are interested in becoming a ride leader or assisting the Saturday morning rides as a 'Lanterne Rouge' then we'd love to hear from you. For Further details, please visit the Ride Leaders Section or email us at info@bigfootcc.co.uk
Ride Rules
Riders must be 16 or over unless accompanied by a responsible adult. Helmets must be worn on all rides. On off road night rides high power (at least 10W) lights are required. If you're not sure call the shop (020 8462 5004). Cyclists on the highway or in the countryside should obey the appropriate rules and regulations of the highway.
